Gain Insight into Your Processes with Value Stream Mapping
The value stream mapping results in your production and administrative flow being visualized in a single image to enable joint decisions on future improvements.
The optimal flow consists only of value-creating activities, as everything else is 'Muda,' which means waste. What constitutes a value-creating activity is assessed from the customer's perspective, where the following criteria must be met:
The activity must enhance the product/service.
The customer must be willing to pay for the activity.
The activity must be performed correctly without errors the first time.
It is common that the majority of the time for each activity in a flow consists of non-value-creating activities (waste) that generate unnecessary costs and long lead times. The purpose of the value stream analysis is to show where there are improvement potentials in the flow by removing non-value-adding elements in the form of waste (Muda):
7+1 Wastes "Muda":
1. Overproduction
2. Waiting
3. Inventory
4. Unnecessary Movements (personnel or raw materials)
5. Malfunction (Repairs, Rework, Scrap)
6. Overprocessing (Non-value-adding activities for the customer)
7. Unnecessary Transportation (raw materials, tools, materials, or products)
+1. Underutilized Employee Creativity
Structure of Value Stream Mapping
You choose which product/process you want to map and analyze. Epical maps the flow from order to delivery, and you collect data on the extent of losses/waste/lead times in the current flow. Epical compiles the value stream mapping and presents it, and a joint analysis is conducted with you on potential future improvements. At the Visuellafabriken.se, there are products that facilitate value stream mapping
